Prepping 2025, Trends & Tools

June 8, 2025 by Rob Last 2 Comments

The world changes and the prepping landscape adapts and grows. Climate events are more widespread and more severe. Supply chain disruptions are more frequent and costly. Global tensions have brought an increased level of threat to us all.

Prepping in 2025 is less about fear and more about foresight. With new tools to adapt to the changing world, prepping is evolving. Whether you’re just starting or you are upgrading your preparedness options, staying informed is the best way to stay prepared.

In this pivotal year for those who take preparedness seriously. Here’s a look at what’s new and trending in the world of prepping technology.

AI Tools for Preppers

Artificial intelligence isn’t just for tech geeks anymore. Preppers are using AI apps to track local weather and to plan emergency routes based on traffic and infrastructure data. Social unrest or disease outbreaks can be followed and projected with predictive analytics apps such as CrisisGuard AI and SafeZone Planner. These tools have grown in popularity, They offer smarter decision-making for bug-out scenarios or sheltering in place.

Climate-Resilient Gardening

As growing seasons shift, preppers are adapting with climate-resilient gardens. Innovative seed varieties are experiencing significant growth in popularity. These are designed for drought tolerance, rapid growth, and suitability for vertical or indoor farming. There is also a rising interest in aquaponics and hydroponics as more individuals seek to cultivate food using minimal land and water resources.

Portable Solar and Power Innovations

The power generators of 2025 are less bulky and more compact and powerful. Foldable solar panels charge devices with less available light. Graphene-based batteries last longer and charge faster. All-in-one solar stations combine panels, batteries, and inverters into briefcase-sized units.

Urban Prepping

In cities, people are creating “go shelves” instead of bug-out bags. They are also forming neighborhood prepper pods for a more cooperative to disasters. Converting closets into micro-supply rooms is an excellent idea for urban preppers. Stealth is often a priority, so many people are keeping their gear hidden in plain sight to avoid theft or panic.

Digital and Crypto Preparedness

Banking systems are becoming more digital and preppers are responding with tech options such as cold wallets for cryptocurrency. There are bartering networks on private message boards. Some are making digital backups of vital documents stored on encrypted USBs. It’s about financial survival and it’s about staying connected and protected when traditional systems go offline.

Mental Health and Community Building

Mental resilience is an essential prepper skill. Methods to stay flexible and keep your edge include prepper meetups and skill-share events. Many folks believe that mindfulness and stress management are an important part of bug-out training. Whenever possible, utilize the greater power of community prepping over lone-wolf isolation. Personal connection is as critical as self-sufficiency.

One Prepper’s Story – Part 3 – The Survivor’s Edge

May 2, 2025 by Mike Palmer Leave a Comment

Next morning Bill wakes to the chill of dawn air. The sun is sparkling brightly through the trees. He’s bothered by anxious thoughts. “Last night I dreamed I arrived at my stash and it was gone, everything stolen. And it was weird. My stash had been replaced by a rabbit hutch full of fat white rabbits that were jumping around and angrily screaming “Fuck, fuck, fuck!”

He lightly grinds his teeth. “I Feel vulnerable here. I must move quickly.”

Bill packs his tent and all the gear that remains in his small stash at the Martin farm. “I don’t feel like eating.” He sets off towards the northeast. As he weaves through the woods he considers. “I sense that I’m not on a winning pace. I need to develop a more vigilant eye on my situation. I’m not sufficiently aware of my surroundings.”

Bill’s planning for this trek became serious a few months back when the riots began. Power stations were blown up. Government officials were resigning and police were quitting their jobs. People were afraid to travel, even to go to work. Roads, trains and planes were being sabotaged.

Here in the woods, there is no comfortable place to sit. There’s no way to order meals for delivery and bugs are crawling across the sweat on his face. He really misses his comfortable apartment back in the city. It’s all gone. No texting on his phone. No browsing the internet. He can’t go to nightclubs on Saturday nights and meet a nice lady. No AC. No electricity at all. No food in the cupboards.

“I have to focus on survival now, I must develop a survivor’s edge.” Bill is wearing hiking boots. He notices that his rapid footsteps through the underbrush are creating two issues. He is making a lot of noise and he can’t hear what’s happening around him. He decides that it would be smart to develop a routine of just stopping to listen. He walks to a large tree and slides down to a sitting position. That’s when he discovers that, right now, the woods are eerily quiet. He listens for a few moments. The silence is reassuring.

“I’m not going to reach my stash today. But I’d like to maintain a steady pace.” He sees that his GPS has stopped working. He digs into his pack for his compass. His voice trails off as he declares “It’s getting serious now.”

A few hours later Bill reaches a place where the woods is thinning and there is more sunlight. He spots a small stream. He drops his pack, empties his pockets and wades into the cool water. He drops to sit while the refreshing water washes over him. He is startled by the sound of quail nearby. “The woods might really be ending soon.” He stands to collect his gear. “Getting soaked might have been a bad idea. I don’t need a rash. When I stop for the night, I’ll get naked and hang up my clothes. Maybe I’ll use one of the body wipes.”

(We’ll continue Bill’s story soon.)

One Prepper’s Story – Part Two

April 25, 2025 by Mike Palmer Leave a Comment

Bill gathers his thoughts and responds to the situation. “Mr. Martin?”

Mr. Martin lowers his rifle and signals all clear to his wife. “I see you decided to bug-out. When you didn’t show up last week, I imagined the worse had happened to you, Bill.”

“I understand. For a while I thought things were going to work out OK. But no.”

Mr. Martin’s wife walks half the distance toward them and stops. “I must return to the house to help our son. Glad to see you again, Bill.”

Mr. Martin tells her “I’ll be right behind you, Emma. Just need a moment.”

He turns toward Bill. “Getting worse every day. I heard they called out the army and the national guard in most states. Today I hear those forces are splintering as well.”

Bills looks shocked.

Mr. Martin speaks rapidly before Bill can respond “My feelings exactly. Things have been bad on the farm. Broken equipment I can’t get fixed. Then failed crops two years in a row. We’ve already used up half the food we had canned. Yesterday we had to shoo off two different couples who wanted to park their campers here. Then, just this morning, Emma shot a man trying to break into our basement.”

As he turns to return to his house he points over to the West “We lost the blood trail over there. All I’m saying is, watch out.”

Bill leans down to reach into his pack. He extends his hands to offer Mr. Martin six protein bars and a bottle of unsalted peanuts. “That’s what I have to spare.”

Mr. Martin walks back to take the food offering and he thanks Bill. Then he quickly walks away to rejoin his family.

Bill didn’t choose this location randomly. He had helped Mr. Martin bale hay for three summers while he was in high school. He returned to visit Mr. Martin last year to explain his bug-out plan and to get Mr. Martin’s permission. He also had a back-up location in a different direction set-up.

Bill is trying to sort things out. “My plan was to camp here for up to a week and hope the situation would improve so I could return to normal life.”

He breathes out hard. He’s adjusting his thinking for a change in plans. “I have just one stash and it’s about five miles northeast from here. Then I’ll try to work my way further northeast toward unused government lands in the foothills that I hope few people know about. The other way is state parks. I can imagine the glut of camper vans and such there. Full of people who are running low on supplies.”

Ben turns on his weather radio. “Nothing but static. Things keep getting worse. I hope I can adjust.”

The sun is low in the sky. Ben selects just the right place for his tent. He sweeps leaves and broken roots from the area and throws down his tarp. The tent is easy to put up. He stands to admire his work. He is very hungry. “I don’t want to start a fire here. I’ll have a protein bar and some water.”

Then he thinks “Hell, and I planned to go fishing tomorrow morning! No time.”

When he imagines all the great stuff in his stash, he feels a bit more secure. The air is cooling this evening, and the quiet is reassuring. He slides into his sleeping bag and is soon asleep.
